The board of supervisors of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has appointed Anneli Tuominen as vice chair. Ms Tuominen, who is director-general of the Finnish Finanssivalvonta (FIN-FSA), will serve a 30-month term effective immediately. She replaces Carlos Tavares, former chairman of the Portuguese Comissão Do Mercado De Valores Mobiliários (CMVM), whose has completed his term.
Ms Tuominen joined the FIN-FSA in 1996 and became director general in February 2007. She is a voting member of the supervisory board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), the European Banking Authority (EBA), the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) and a non-voting member in the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB). She chairs the consumer protection and financial innovation sub-committee of the joint committee and previously chaired ESMA’s financial innovation standing committee.
